Congressmen Eric Sorensen (IL-17) applauded the announcement from the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) that the Milan Mail Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) will remain open at current staffing levels. For over a year, Congressman Sorensen has been urging USPS officials to keep the Milan center open in an effort to protect the jobs there that help ensure mail service in the Quad Cities is not disrupted.
“The Milan P&DC employs many of our neighbors who help ensure timely mail delivery that helps boost our economy,” said Congressmen Eric Sorensen. “After urging USPS leadership to keep this facility open for more than a year, I’m glad to hear that they have decided to pause any changes through 2025, keeping current staffing levels the same. I will continue working to protect high-paying and high-quality jobs in Milan and throughout the Quad Cities.”
In February 2024, Congressman Sorensen sent a letter to USPS leadership questioning their consideration of moving these jobs to Des Moines, Iowa, which would hurt working families and may increase delivery times for residents. A month later, Congressman Sorensen sent another letter urging USPS leadership to reconsider their decision to eliminate the Milan Processing and Distribution Center. Later in May 2024, he secured a pause in “any implementation of moves” for processing centers “at least until January 1, 2025,” which led to the announcement today.
