The Monmouth College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Wartburg Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday. Shane Anderson (Lisle, Illinois) won the weight throw with a school record performance of 20.00m, the second-best throw in Division III this season.
Anderson broke the school record of 19.91m that was set by Joe Krall in 2019 at Illinois Wesleyan and matched later that season at the MWC Championships by John Hintz. Anderson threw 19.88m earlier this season at a home meet and won the MWC Championship last week with a throw of 19.57m.
Senior Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) nearly broke the 19-year-old school record in the 800m. He took almost two seconds off his PR and ran 1:53.87, just shy of Kel Bond's school record of 1:53.80. His mark goes down as the second-best in school history after Newton won the event last week at the MWC Championships in 1:56.05.
On the women's side, senior Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) finished second in the weight throw at 17.94m with Jillian Toth (El Paso, Illinois) in fourth at 16.59m and Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) in sixth at 14.94m.
Boley just missed a PR in the shot put as she finished third with a final throw of 13.61m. Braun was ninth at 12.35m and Toth finished 15th at 11.34m.
