Illinois News

Friday June 11 Governor JB Pritzker fully reopened the State. All capacity limits have been eliminated on businesses, events, conventions, amusement parks, and other venues. Federal mask mandates remain in place for public transportation, schools, health care settings, and other such facilities.


The Illinois Department of Health expanded COVID-19 testing to elementary schools on June 9. This decision was made to ensure schools can more safely resume in person learning. Schools can choose to utilize the saliva-based covidSHIELD test developed by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).


City of Galesburg

Monday June 7 the Galesburg City Council removed funding for further study of expanding Lake Storey from the budget.


Galesburg Public Library

The Galesburg Public Library was selected as a recipient for the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read grant. They will be bringing An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo to life at the library in April 2022.


Galesburg Public Library also announced that they are now fine free.


Galesburg Civic Art Center

The Galesburg Civic Art Center will be relocating to the location occupied by Galesburg Antiques Mall. Renovation is slated to begin in early fall. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2023. Plans for relocating the Galesburg Antiques Mall are still pending.


The Carver Center

A groundbreaking was held June 11 for the rebuilding of The Carver Center at 424 S. Depot Street.
