Knox County Health Department

The CDC reports that Knox County is now rated at High Community Level for COVID-19. The Knox County Health Department urges all residents for the health and safety of our community, to wear face coverings indoors, practice social distancing, stay up to date on vaccines and boosters, and stay home when you are ill.


Lakeside Water Park

The City of Galesburg Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the opening of a new water play feature at Lakeside Water Park. This feature creates a "Splash Zone" of fun for all ages to enjoy May 28 - September 5, 2022 from 12 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday, with extended hours on Friday - Sunday from 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. Please note the water park will not be open for general open swim while District 205 is in session. Programs such as early morning lap swim or fitness classes will still be offered as scheduled.

There are now a variety of slide options that will provide a splish splash sliding experience for all skill levels and ages. There are water play features that spray everywhere to keep everyone entertained with spray guns, spouts, and water play. Guests won't miss the "Bucket of Fun", which is a rather large dumping bucket which is sure to keep all ages engaged. Lakeside Water Park also features a zero depth pool with exciting water geysers and a 25-yard lap competition pool. The pools are heated, ADA accessible, and surrounded with a sun deck and chaise lounge chairs. No outside food or beverage is allowed in the water park, but swimmers may take a break and enjoy snacks and pizza in the concession area.

Special event themed days are planned throughout the summer for added fun and excitement. There are BINGO days on select Tuesday afternoons for all ages. Family and Teen swims are planned on select evenings throughout the summer. Enjoy aquatic fitness with access to early morning lap swim, aquatic fitness classes and adult fitness programs. These will include Battleships, Adult Water Volleyball, and Adult Underwater Hockey. Reservations are now being taken for birthday parties or small celebrations, Friday-Sunday. A basic birthday party is $171 base plus $12 per additional person. A premium birthday part is $198 base plus $14 per additional person. After hours rentals of the water park are $625 per hour with limited availability on dates and times.


VNA

The VNA was open for 25 business days. It has once again closed due to COVID-19 transmissions reaching a high rate in our community. All services will remain the same with the exception of Congregate Meals (returning to take away model) and New Age New Image Fitness Center (will resume once able to reopen).


United Way of Knox County

The summer lunch program is back! Starting June 9 United Way will be serving in Abingdon, Galesburg, and Knoxville Monday through Friday. Children will get the opportunity to eat lunch with other children as lunches will need to be eaten on site. The 2022 Galesburg site locations are as follows Rotary Park (12 to 1 p.m.), Country Elms (1 to 1:30 p.m.), Kimberly Terrace (1:45 to 2:15 p.m.), Cedar Creek (TBD), Woodland Bend (TBD), Whispering Hollow (TBD), and Brentwood Manor (TBD). Abingdon 2022 site location Rotary Park (12 to 1 p.m.). Knoxville 2022 site location James Knox Park (12 to 1 p.m.). New this year United Way of Knox County has partnered with Galesburg Parks and Recreation to offer summer lunches at all mobile park locations.


Community Hygiene Pantry

The Community Hygiene Pantry has partnered with the VNA to help make the seniors of Knox County no longer have to go without essentials in their daily lives. Call the VNA to get set up with all your hygiene essentials at 342 - 1152.


Carl Sandburg College

The Sandburg Trio Upward Bound has been awarded a new five year grant cycle worth more than $1.5 million from the US Department of Education to serve area high school students working to become first generation college graduates. Upward Bound is a federally funded program that is free to participants. Sandburg Upward Bound serves 67 Knox County high school students from the Abingdon Avon CUSD #276, Galesburg High School, Knoxville High School, and ROWVA CUSD #208 each year.
