Berwick Elementary School closed on June 10 in 1972. On May 7 Tori Morris will be hosting a 50 year reunion for the school at 2 p.m. in Berwick Baptist Church. All classes are welcome to attend the reunion. Berwick Baptist Church is located in Warren County and is a 20 mile drive from Galesburg.
“Myself and a good friend of mine got the information together in 2002 for a 30-year reunion. We came across a picture from June 25, 1891, as the oldest picture found of classmates. The actual building may have been different back then. A picture showing the current building is from 1918.” explained Morris.
The reunion will feature “a lady that grew up in Berwick and her husband that sings will be singing along with everyone. We will be talking about old memories. We've asked people to bring pictures and memorabilia to share.”
When asked, Morris had a hard time picking one favorite memory to share, “so many memories - we always had one play each year that had all the students of the school in it.”
For Morris it’s not just a reunion “anyone who grew up in a small town and went to a small school has such memories and love for one another.”
The Berwick Elementary School Reunion is also on the same day as Berwick Day. Anyone who wants to go can make a day of both events.
Berwick Day will feature an antique and collector car cruise in, tractors on display,all you can eat Fireman’s Breakfast (7 to 10 a.m.), Berwick Baptist Church Bake Sale and Lunch (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), Pedal Tractor Pull (11 a.m.), face painting, blacksmith demonstrations, homemade ice cream, and parade (1:30 p.m.). There will also be garage sales, flea market, and craft vendors. Raffle tickets for Farmall MD Precision Tractor with Loader Forks will be available.
Morris would like the Knox County community to know “don't count these small communities out. Berwick has a yearly Berwick Day and the church and firefighters have other activities throughout the year.”
