It’s almost Spring/Summer of 2021. Hurray!!! That means warm temps, sunshine, longer days and we will soon be trading our pandemic sweatpants and work from home clothes for shorts, t-shirts, swimming suits and flip flops. Wait. Did I just hear a “yikes”?
No doubt the past year was ROUGH on us all. I have run into many who have been emotionally struggling for various reasons. Show of hands. Who else out there in “The Burg reader land” is in panic mode right now? Perhaps the pandemic wasn’t that kind to your psyche or your body? Do you look at certain people and think “Man, they really have it together” or “Sheesh, why can’t I look like that?” or have the overall “I’m not good enough” attitude toward yourself? If so, keep reading...
Life. It’s a roller coaster of ups and downs, disappointments, happiness, sorrows, and true joy (on TOP of dealing with a pandemic). It can knock us down making it difficult to recover from and get back up. And when we feel bad about ourselves, our situation, or we lack in the self confidence area, it’s not that easy to just “snap out of it” or “just think positive”. What is it that keeps you from being your best self? Is it your own self image? A relational issue? Current events?
Or maybe it’s as simple as you were reluctantly shopping for that new swimming suit at Target when the most beautiful, skinny, together-looking woman bumped into you triggering you to question yourself and run the other direction? I’m going let you in on a secret: Chances are, the people you are comparing yourself to have their own set of insecurities. Yes, even that woman at Target.
So. We all have to start somewhere. First and foremost, we need to just OWN IT! What’s “it”? Ourselves! You wake up and CHOOSE to be happy and confident. Try it for one full day. Walk into the Target swimsuit area like you own it! Like a Boss! Sounds easy, right? How about some fun affirmations to help out:
When something goes wrong in your life, just yell “plot twist” and move on.
Nobody else is like me.
Get your happy on
Chin up princess or the crown slips
Put on your positive pants.
Why become moody when you can shake your booty.
We ALL have bad days, burdens and difficult life seasons. Yes, there will be struggles. Yes, someone will always be prettier, thinner, smarter, more handsome, etc. But to quote Dr. Seuss? “Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!” Be YOU. BeYOUtiful. Like a Boss!
I’ll be back with another column soon. Until then? You might just catch me at Target, in the swimsuit area! Maybe even dancing...like a Boss!
