Boys Soccer: Beardstown 7, Monmouth-Roseville 0

The road trip to play at Beardstown has historically not been a favorable one for the Monmouth-Roseville boys soccer team, and Tigers’ striker Guillermo Hernandez made sure it stayed that way September 16, netting five goals as his squad posted a 7-0 victory over the visiting Titans.

Hernandez got the scoring started in the 14th minute when his long shot took a slight deflection and slipped past M-R goalie Isaac Garcia. Hernandez would score his next three goals in a four-minute flurry, starting with a close-range goal off a deft pass into the box by Michael Sevilla. He got his hat trick as a result of another good lead pass into the box, and tallied his fourth goal when he headed home a cross by Luis Miguel de la Cruz.

The Tigers weren’t done in the first half, as Joshua Severino blasted home a shot with four minutes to play. Sevilla added an equally impressive long-range blast with 55 seconds showing on the clock.

Hernandez scored the lone goal of the second half when he stole the ball at the top of the box and beat Garcia from there.

Beardstown held a 22-4 edge in shots while dropping the M-R’s record to 4-5-2 on the year.

In the JV game, Beardstown scored twice in the first half and went on to win 2-0.
