The Monmouth-Roseville soccer team held host Limestone scoreless for a 50-minute stretch, but two early goals and two late ones spelled a 4-1 victory for the host Rockets September 5 at Frank C. Leach Stadium.
Limestone rocketed to a 1-0 lead in the first 44 seconds on a goal by Logan Smallwood, and the hosts doubled their lead in the 10th minute on a rebound goal by Logan Cassidy. The Rockets wouldn’t score again until there were less than 18 minutes remaining in the second half. In the meantime, M-R trimmed the deficit to one on a goal by Cee Sarcomo midway through the first half. Angel Jurado had the assist.
But the Rockets iced the game on Smallwood’s second goal of the game, assisted by Joey Shields, and Connor Heskett tacked on a free kick goal with 5:38 to play to close the scoring.
Limestone held a 16-3 edge in shots while improving to 4-2 on the year.
M-R, which fell to 3-2-2, returns to action Monday night at Pattee Fields against Quincy Notre Dame.
In the JV game, the Titans battled for 60 minutes but surrendered a goal with 17 seconds to play to fall 2-1. Cristian Arellano had M-R’s goal, assisted by John Mya.
