The first concert of the season will take place on Saturday, November 20 at 7:30 pm at First
Lutheran Church in Galesburg. It will feature Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living and Ola
Gjeilo’s Luminous Night of the Soul, both for chorus and chamber orchestra.
According to Director Dr. Tim Pahel, “the music is truly gorgeous and is so expressive,
sometimes uplifting, and sometimes full of pathos. It’s perfect for our first concert after the
pandemic because we want to celebrate how beautiful and expressive choral music can be, that
it’s something we really need in our lives.”
Tickets may be purchased at the door, and we ask that everyone wear a mask and social
distance.
Sponsors of this season’s concerts include Blick Art Materials, OSF Healthcare, the Galesburg
Community Foundation, the City of Galesburg, and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
The Galesburg Community Chorus, directed by Dr. Tim Pahel, is the oldest community music
organization in the Galesburg area and is currently celebrating its 76 th anniversary.
