The Monmouth College women's soccer team stayed alive in the race for the Midwest Conference tournament with a 4-2 home win over Ripon on October 26. The Fighting Scots (5-8-3, 3-3-1) are currently tied with Beloit for the final spot though Illinois College is also in the mix heading into their home game October 26.
The Scots took the lead in the 13th minute as Brooke Gruby (Leonardtown, Maryland) got the ball to Mariah Hobson (Princeton, Illinois). The sophomore finished for her fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 Monmouth lead. In the 35th minute, Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) doubled the Scots lead with her team-leading 11th goal of the season.
Hobson scored again in the 47th minute with Beach picking up the assist. However, Ripon got on the board less than three minutes later and cut the Monmouth lead to 3-2 in the 53rd minute. Freshman Kiersten Medinger (Silvis, Illinois) restored the 2-goal lead with a goal in the 65th minute, again assisted by Beach.
Goalkeeper Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) played the first 70 minutes and made six saves. Bronte de Zwart (Adelaide, Australia) finished the game in goal with four saves in 20 minutes.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois) played all 90 minutes and has played every minute this season ... Taylor Freeman (Washington, Illinois) also played all 90 minutes ... Beach moved into 11th on the career list with 53 points ...
