GALESBURG, Illinois - Knox College's regular season Midwest Conference (MWC) men's and women's basketball games scheduled for Wednesday, January 12, at Cornell College have been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. At this time, the games have not been rescheduled but may be made up at a later date pending scheduling opportunities for both teams.
The Prairie Fire basketball teams will prepare to host Beloit on January 15 as scheduled.
Additionally, Knox College is continuing spectator restrictions, until further notice, due to the increased risk of infection from the COVID-19 Omicron and Delta variants. The College has been closely monitoring the Omicron COVID-19 variant in recent weeks and has seen increasing evidence confirming the higher transmissibility of the Omicron variant in comparison to the Delta variant. With Prairie Fire students and student-athletes returning to campus during a period of high case counts and with cases linked to Omicron continuing to grow, the College will not be allowing spectators until further notice. As stated in a recent update from the College, “flexibility and the need to adjust in response to fast-changing circumstances and scientific guidance remain critical to keeping our community safe as well as to providing the personalized, experience-based education each of our students deserve.” The College will revisit this decision at the end of January. Our home contests will be live streamed to give our fans, families, and friends an opportunity to remain engaged and see our student-athletes in action as we usher in a new year. Athletics event spectator policies are contingent upon COVID-19 guidance and information provided by state and county public health officials, the NCAA, and the Midwest Conference. Knox College is committed to ensuring a healthy campus and Prairie Fire athletics will make any adjustments necessary to our spectator policies to protect the well-being of our community. Please check the Prairie Fire website for spectator updates related to future home contests.
