MONMOUTH, Illinois - The Prairie Fire men's soccer team defeated Monmouth 4-2 on the road on Tuesday afternoon.
Alex White got the scoring started for Knox when Giuseppe Ceschia hit him for a goal in the 19th minute. Ceschia also assisted on a goal by Joey Dorgan, Jr. just a few minutes later.
Luis Silva added a goal in the 39th minute to give the Prairie Fire a 3-0 edge heading into halftime. Knox outshot the Scots 10-3 in the first half and looked to have the game well in hand.
Martin Garcia tacked on another Prairie Fire goal at the 50:39 mark to take a 4-0 lead.
Monmouth found the back of the net in the 74th minute to get on the board. The Scots then added another goal in the 86th minute, but it was too little too late.
Monmouth did go on the offensive in the second half with a 9-7 edge in shots.
"It was nice to get another conference win out of the way," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "It's even better when you beat a rival, but we lost focus a bit at the end to let them back in the game and we'll need to play the whole game against some of our upcoming opponents if we want to keep winning games."
Knox will return to action as they travel to Wisconsin-Platteville on October 6.
