GALESBURG - The Prairie Fire men's soccer team won their home opener over Wartburg 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Knox struck early when Giuseppe Ceschia found the back of the net in the 14th minute on an assist from Joey Dorgan, Jr.
The Prairie Fire would take their 1-0 lead into halftime after neither team saw many chances in the first half with just two shots apiece.
The second half was a flurry of action as both teams had some great looks and got some good shots off.
The Knights tied the game in the 60th minute on a penalty kick, but Knox responded when Jonathan Gonzalez scored at the 66:46 mark to take a 2-1 lead.
Wartburg outshot the Prairie Fire 7-6 in the second half, but Knox held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal in the game.
"Today was a hard fought win against an excellent Wartburg team," said head coach Brian O'Connor. "We had some great chances and didn't allow Wartburg too many good shots on goal."
Knox will return to action on September 6 as they travel to Luther.
