The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated Lawrence 60-35 on Tuesday night to remain undefeated in conference play. Their 11 wins matches a program high and their nine game winning streak is a new Knox record.
The Vikings jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the first quarter and outscored the Prairie Fire 8-7 in the period.
Knox turned it on in the second quarter as they began with a 14-4 run to take a nine point lead. The Prairie Fire built up a 25-15 lead by halftime.
Knox came out of halftime on fire with 29 points in the third quarter to take a commanding lead. The Prairie Fire cruised to victory with only six points in the final quarter.
Kristin Herndon led Knox with 14 points and 13 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Kylee Callahan chipped in nine points and six boards.
"We started out slow, but really hit our stride in the second and third quarters," said head coach Kira Mowen. "We can't have too many quarters like the first if we want to keep winning, but if we play like we did the rest of the game we'll be very happy."
The Prairie Fire return to action as they travel to Cornell on February 4.
