Kwanzaa Celebration

The Galesburg NAACP Branch #3016, the Downtown Community Project (DCP) of Galesburg, and Jay Bullis are sponsoring a Kwanzaa celebration. The event will be held on Sunday, 19 December, 6-8 pm. Kwanzaa is an annual African-American celebration of African culture and heritage, created in 1966. The theme for the celebration is "Come-Unity," a play on the word community. A key purpose of this year's event is to create more unity among the African American, African, and Caribbean communities of Galesburg. We anticipate having food from the USA (Soul Food), the Caribbean, Congo, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Gambia, and Kenya; plus great music and fun for the entire family. All are welcome! We will also honor our inaugural Ambassadors of Pan African Culture--Semenya McCord and Mzee (Fred) Hord--for their longstanding commitment to and promotion of Afrocentric values and culture. The address for the event is 218 E. Main Street, parking and entry at the front and back of the building.
