Men's Tennis Drops Two Matches on Saturday

The Monmouth College men's tennis team dropped a pair of Midwest Conference matches on Saturday at Lawrence (7-0) and Ripon (6-1). Freshman Matthew Savage (Washington, Illinois) picked up his first career singles win in the second match.
Sawyer Day (Cupertino, California) and Savage played at #1 doubles and lost to Lawrence 6-2 and to Ripon 6-0. At #2 doubles, Antonio Perez (St. George, Utah) and Macaden Sepich (Mackinaw, Illinois) lost 6-0 against Lawrence and 6-1 against Ripon. At #3 doubles, Spencer Corn (Kansas City, Missouri) and Andrew Nickols (Janesville, Wisconsin) lost 6-0 at Lawrence and 6-2 at Ripon.
Savage picked up his first career win while playing at #2 singles. He won at Ripon 6-4, 6-3. Earlier in the day, Savage lost 7-5, 6-3 at Lawrence.
At #1 singles, Day lost 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0. Sepich lost 6-1, 6-2 against Lawrence at #3 and dropped down to #4 against Ripon where he lost 7-5, 6-2. Perez lost in a third set tiebreak 10-7 against Lawrence at #4 and moved up to #3 where he won the first set 6-1 before falling 6-1, 6-3 in the final two.
Corn lost 7-5, 6-0 at #5 against Lawrence while Nickols played at #5 against Ripon, falling 6-1, 6-1. Alfonso Mares (Oak Lawn, Illinois) played at #6 in both matches with a 6-2, 6-4 loss against LU and a 6-5, 6-1 loss against Ripon.
Monmouth plays at Illinois College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday before hosting Lake Forest at 3 p.m. Saturday.
