Mr. Roland E. “Rollie” Williams, Sr., 62, of Galesburg, Illinois died 9:54 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021 at his home. He was born February 25, 1958 in Galesburg to Tannie and Winnifred E. (Trent) Williams. Surviving is his mother, Winnifred Mack and step father, Leroy Mack of Peoria, the mother of his children, Anna Medina of Galesburg, a son, Roland E. Williams, Jr. of Galesburg, a daughter, Monique Williams of Galesburg, three brothers, Stanley Trent of Georgia, Kenny Cunningham of East Dubuque, Illinois, and Kevin Williams of Conway, Arkansas, a sister, Rosemary Williams of Portland, Oregon, two grandchildren, Nyla Jordan and Terence Jordan, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, a great nephew and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Tannie Williams and two brothers, Keith Trent and Timmy Williams. Rollie attended Churchill Junior High School where he played sports and his love for sports especially basketball, continued when he got to Galesburg High School. Describing himself as “the fastest in the school at the time”, his sophomore team went undefeated at 22-0. Upon graduation from GHS in 1977, he earned his associate degree while playing basketball at Carl Sandburg College and then continued on to Graceland College in Iowa. Throughout his life, he worked for different companies as a construction worker. He enjoyed many things in his 62 years of life, including coaching kids, cooking, fishing, playing slots, building things, going on road trips, going to the movies, volunteering at First Baptist Church, attending bible study, listening to Gospel music, and most importantly, spending time with his family. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited occupancy. A private funeral service will be at the chapel. Rev. Tyson Parks, III will officiate. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
