Galesburg, IL (July 21, 2021) The Galesburg Police Department, in cooperation with numerous civic and public service organizations, is proud to announce the 2021 "National Night Out" event at Standish Park on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
“I would like to invite our community out to Standish Park for this event to meet officers and dispatchers from their police department” stated Chief Idle. “We would like for the community to come and see the faces behind the uniform and headsets and get to know them, as well as the other members from the community who have volunteered to help make this event a success.”
The following is a list of some of the organizations and activities that will be taking place at the National Night Out event:
Free hot dogs, beverages, and popsicles.
The Salvation Army will have a drawing for two 16” children’s bikes with training wheels.
Community Unit District #205 Union will have a game for children.
Regional Office of Education's Prenatal to Age 3 Program will have information on their services and a sensory bin for kids.
EPIC will have a ring toss and connect four game.
The Family Literacy Program will have book giveaways and a station for kids to make their own book.
Galesburg Public Library will have yard games and bubble activities on behalf of the Downtown Community Partnership of Galesburg.
CommunityGlo will be offering a jam spritzer (cold drink) and sharing information about their Free Hot Meal Program.
Gary Mustain will provide magic tricks.
Carl Sandburg College Theatre Department will have face painting.
Kuk Sool Won will be providing a demonstration.
Bridgeway will also be participating with a kids games.
Galesburg 911 Communication Center will have games for the kids to play.
The Galesburg Fire Department, Galesburg Police Department, and the Galesburg Hospitals' Ambulance Service (GHAS) will have emergency vehicles at the event for the public to view.
Officer Thompson with the Galesburg Police Department will be giving a K9 Demo with his partner K9 Dax.
The Galesburg High School football and competition cheer team will be performing and inviting kids to dance with them and to learn the routine.
