EUREKA, Illinois - The Prairie Fire volleyball team earned a three set victory over Eureka on Wednesday night to open the season.
Knox won the match 25-20, 25-21, 26-24. The Prairie Fire jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set and led throughout.
Eureka held an 8-5 edge in the early going of the second set, but Knox soon knotted the score at 12-all. After some back and forth, the Prairie Fire took a 20-19 lead and held on for a 25-21 win in set two.
Eureka took a 17-13 lead late into the third set, but Knox stormed back to win the set and the match.
Catessa Duran led the Prairie Fire with 14 kills and two blocks. Katie Anderson racked up 24 assists, 17 digs, three kills, and a block to help in all facets of the game in typical fashion. Thao Luong and Sally Bessette each added five kills and Emme Patton grabbed 14 digs.
"This was a great start to our season," said head coach Pat Barry. "We battled back a few times and played hard. I'm very proud of the team."
Knox returns to action as they travel to the Illinois College Tournament on September 4.
