GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team fell 62-60 in overtime to Luther on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams got out to a slow start, but Knox pulled away 18-10 after the first quarter.
The Norse crept back into the game in the second quarter and tied the game 26-26 on a buzzer beater to head into halftime.
The third quarter was a back and forth affair with the Prairie Fire coming out with a 39-37 lead heading into the final period.
Luther took a small lead in the early going of the final quarter, but Knox rallied and led for most of the last five minutes of the game. However, the Norse tied the game with 12 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.
Luther took the lead early in overtime, but Knox fought their way back into the game and held a two point lead late in the overtime period. The Norse hit four free throws down the stretch to earn the victory.
Catessa Duran led the Prairie Fire with 16 points before fouling out in overtime. She also grabbed seven boards. Kristin Herndon added six points and 12 rebounds.
"We stopped most of the runs by Luther, but we just ran out of steam at the end," said assistant coach Travis Muntz. "We had our chances today, but could not quite finish. We have been playing pretty well for about the last month, now we need to find a way to finish these close games."
Knox returns to action on January 12 when they travel to Cornell to resume conference play.
