Three of the Sandburg baseball team’s top hitters were voted by league coaches to the All-Arrowhead Conference team.
Redshirt sophomore Chase Mason, sophomore Noah Wolf and freshman Austin Wiegand were selected to the team after helping the Chargers to a 10-9 record in conference play.
Mason, a catcher from Washington, earned an all-conference nod for the second time in his Chargers career. He was voted to the squad as a freshman in 2022 before missing most of last year because of injury. Mason played in all 19 Arrowhead games this spring and collected 76 plate appearances. He batted .355, got on base at a .474 clip and slugged .548 for a 1.022 OPS. Mason’s 22 hits in conference play tied Wiegand for the team lead. He also totaled two homers, 13 RBIs and 18 runs while stealing three bases. Behind the plate, Mason threw out four base stealers in 88 innings.
In 18 Arrowhead games, Wolf, an infielder from Fishers, Ind., led the Chargers in batting average (.439), on-base percentage (.574) and OPS (1.233) over 59 plate appearances. He had two home runs, 15 RBIs, scored 15 runs three steals.
Wiegand, an outfielder from Eureka, appeared in all 19 conference games for Sandburg and led the team with 46 total bases and 13 extra-base hits in 76 plate appearances. The left-handed hitter slashed .338/.434/.708 for a 1.142 OPS. He finished second on the team in home runs (five), RBIs (17) and runs (22) while going 4 for 4 on steal attempts.
