GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team reached a new high in this week’s NJCAA Division II rankings, which were released Monday afternoon.
The Chargers (11-2 overall, 8-2 Region IV) moved up one spot this week to No. 7, the highest ranking in program history. Sandburg had been as high as No. 8 on two occasions this season.
The Chargers won both matches they played last week, defeating South Suburban — which received votes in this week’s rankings — 3-0 on Wednesday on the road and beating Kishwaukee 4-0 on Saturday at home. Sandburg has won five of its last six contests, with its only loss in that stretch a 3-2 overtime defeat at current No. 4 Prairie State.
Sandburg earned 112 points in this week’s voting, just one point behind No. 6 Morton, which the Chargers defeated earlier this season. The Chargers have been ranked in all nine polls this season and in 11 in a row dating back to last spring.
Sandburg’s next game is 4 p.m. Wednesday at McHenry County.
