WOODHULL… State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) coordinated a return of his in-person Veterans and Seniors Fairs throughout the 74th District this week after the events were needfully placed on hiatus for 2020.
“It sure was great to connect veterans and seniors with help in-person again this year,” said Swanson.
Swanson’s annual events provide an opportunity for local veterans and seniors to interact face-to-face with state agencies available to them.
This year’s events kicked off in Mercer County at the VFW in Aledo on Tuesday, followed by the Moose Lodge in Princeton on Wednesday, the Knights of Columbus Hall in Galesburg on Thursday and concluding at the Flemish American Club in Kewanee on Friday. Admission to all events was free and a light lunch was provided.
“I know these conversations with agencies can be difficult over the phone and so it was important to me to be able to connect veterans and seniors with a real, live person to help in getting the assistance they need,” Swanson continued. “We owe a great debt to these men and women, and this is just one small way we can make sure they know about services and programs available to them.”
“My two measures of success are simple— observing the networking and collaboration conducted by the exhibitors amongst themselves and the veteran or senior leaving the fair with a bag full of information,” said Swanson.
