The Monmouth College men's and women's swimming teams celebrated senior day by sweeping Illinois College on Saturday. The men won 145-89 while the women won 119-107.
Women
Cally Tate (Monmouth, Illinois) won the 50-yard backstroke in 28.48 and also won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.33.
Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois) won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:09,35 with Aiden Bach (Stetsonville, Missouri) in second place in a time of 2:11.22. Fitch also won the 500 free in 5:49.09 and Bach won the 200 IM in 2:30.00.
Senior Mady Gaus (Herscher, Illinois) won the 50 fly in a time of 31.29 and she won the 100 fly in 1:08.64. Rudy Poffinbarger (Rockford, Illinois) was third in the 100 fly in 1:13.74
Claire LaBadie (Griffith, Indiana) won the 100 free in 1:02.02. She also finished second in the 50 free in 27.75.
Senior Kate Oberheu (Fort Worth, Texas) was third in the 50 breaststroke in 37.29, just ahead of Emily Davis (Beloit, Wisconsin) in 39.09. The duo also took third and fourth in the 100 breaststroke.
Monmouth opened the meet with Tate, Oberheu, Gaus and Fitch winning the 400 medley relay in a time of 4:27.00. The Scots capped the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay with Fitch, LaBadie, Tate and Oberheu taking the race in 1:50.09.
Men
Collin Heslin (Nashville, Tennessee) turned in the fifth-best time in school history with a 26.69 in the 50-yard backstroke. He won the event just ahead of Luke Foster (Galesburg, Illinois) who clocked the eighth-best time in school history at 27.34. The duo flipped the order in the 100 back with Foster winning in 59.19 and Heslin taking second in 59.74.
Senior Tristan Kennon (Flossmoor, Illinois) won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.97. Freshman Jaeden Peters (Greenfield, Indiana) won the 1000 freestyle by 34 seconds with a time of 11:06.77. Senior Brady Hild (Tremont, Illinois) was third in 12:36.97. Peters was second in the 500 free with a time of 5:17.43 and Hild took fifth.
Freshman Kody Coyne (Bluffton, Indiana) won the 50 breaststroke in 29.93 with senior Camden Schmidt (Washington, Illinois) in third with a time of 31.11. Coyne also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.99 with Ethan Main (Oneida, Illinois) in second at 1:07.34. Coyne and Main went 1-2 in the 200 IM with Coyne finishing in 2:19.35 and Main in 2:21.13.
Freshman Tariq McLarty (South Holland, Illinois) won the 100 fly in 54.27 with Eli Wills (Blue Springs, Missouri) in third at 1:02.38. McLarty also won the 100 free in 49.56 with Kennon in third at 53.58. Wills won the 50 fly in 26.23 with Monmouth sweeping the top four. Kennon took second in 26.65, ahead of Schmidt (26.92) and Jaydon Wilbon (Crown Point, Indiana). Wilbon took third in the 50 free in 26.19.
The Scots were second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:52.67 as McLarty, Main, Coyne and Kennon teamed up on the relay. Foster, Peters, Schmidt and Main also took second in the 200 medley relay on Saturday with a time of 1:40.49.
Gaus, Hild, Kennon, Oberheu and Schmidt were honored in a pre-meet Senior Day ceremony.
The Scots are next in the pool at the Midwest Conference Championships in Grinnell, Iowa from Feb. 16-18.
