On December 9 the Knox County Sheriff’s Department hosted their annual Shop with a Cop event at the Galesburg Walmart. The officers took 51 kids shopping. While the event was happening Linda Howarter DAR Rebecca Parke Chapter Service for Veterans Chairman surprised two Knox County Sheriff’s Department Officers and the Knox County Sheriff with quilts from the Knoxville Quilts of Valor in honor of their military service.

Judy Rutledge and Jane Smith from Knoxville Quilts of Valor presented the quilts. Each quilt was wrapped around the veteran with a hug. They also received instructions on how to care for the quilt and a certificate.

Here are the details for the veterans who were honored:

Shawn Keith served in the Marines from 2010 to 2014.

Sheriff Jack Harlan served in the Army from 1993 to 2015.

Barry Daniel served in the Air Force from 2000 to 2004.

All three were honored  with a military brick at a dedication ceremony hosted earlier this year by the DAR Rebecca Parke Chapter at VFW 2257.
