WIU-QC to Host School Counseling Open House Nov. 19

Western Illinois University Counselor Education, College Student Personnel and Social Work will host a School Counseling Open House from 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, on the Moline campus in Riverfront Hall, rooms 103/104. All interested students are welcome to attend and a complimentary taco bar and raffle will be available.

“The demand for school counselors in Iowa and Illinois is soaring. WIU’s school counseling program emphasizes rigorous academic preparation, hands-on clinical experiences, and immersive engagement with K-12 students. Through direct collaboration with school districts, students graduate with strong clinical counseling skills, fully prepared to meet the needs of diverse school populations,” WIU Counselor Education Associate Professor Matthew Beck said.

Interested students can learn more about school counseling at WIU, and engage in dialogue with prospective and current students, alumni, school counselors, WIU school counseling faculty and school district administrators.

A few specialized information sessions will be available: Administrators and students can learn how to grow their own school counseling program; Prospective students can learn about the program and application process, meet faculty and staff and current students; and school counselors can engage with colleagues about best practices in the field of counseling from faculty and internship students.

Special guests with remarks will include Amy Zero, Rock Island Academy School Counselor ISCA K-8 Counselor of the Year; Vince Walsh-Rock, ISCA Executive Director; and Tammy Muerhoff, the regional superintendent of schools, in Rock Island County.
